Renal tumors and cysts are rare in children and most are highly treatable. When a renal tumor or cyst is present, a lump may be felt in the child’s abdomen while taking a bath or shower, getting dressed or during a routine physical examination by a pediatrician.

Occasionally, a child will have the following symptoms:

  • Blood in the urine
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Reduced appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Constipation or high blood pressure

Certain chromosomal abnormalities have been associated with a higher risk for renal tumors. These abnormalities may be related to genetics during development.
