Why a Pediatric Urologist?

Our doctors are two of the approximately 200 board certified urologists in the entire United States who have chosen to further sub-specialize as full-time pediatric urologists. Having received the coveted American Board of Urology Certificate of Added Qualification, Drs. Keating and Gomez have attained the highest level of achievement for pediatric urologists.

There are currently a number of general urologists who also care for children. However, there is a significant difference in training between general urologists and fellowship trained pediatric urologists. These specialists take additional educational courses, including clinical fellowships, advanced training and certification examinations to further their knowledge of pediatric urology.

Without question, experience matters when it comes to any medical procedure, especially when children are involved. Since a child’s physiology is much different than an adult’s, this expertise in treating pediatric urologic conditions is essential. This experience ensures that the therapies and strategies used do not affect the patient’s ability to continue to develop and grow normally.
